NCERT has announced dates for NTSE 2017. National Talent Search Examination will be held on 14th May 2017. For appearing in this examination, firstly students will have to qualify State Level Exam. Different States and Union Territories organize state level exam in the month of November. Thus NTSE is conducted in two stages – Stage 1(state level) and Stage 2 (national level).
It is a an exam conducted for the award of scholarship for the students studying at the Class X (10th). Scholarships are given up to Ph.D. level in Social Sciences, Sciences, Humanities, Commerce, Languages, Vocational Studies and Fine arts. However, scholarships are given up to second degree level for professional courses in engineering, technology, medicines, management and law. Scholarships are awarded as mentioned below:
Rs.1250 per month for class XI and XII.
Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Postgraduates students.
Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. will be fixed based on the UGC norms.
Students studying in Class X are eligible to appear. Students should have qualified State’s Stage – 1 exam. Eligibility Criteria may be different for appearing in State Level Exams. Indian students studying abroad in class X are exempted from Stage 1 exam. They can directly take Stage 2 exam. They will get scholarship for pursuing studies in India only.

SC category- 15%, ST category- 7.5% and Physically Challenged students- 3%
NTSE 2017 Application Form
Form can be obtained from State/UT Liaison officer. Last date for submitting the application form will be notified by respective State/UT only. Different states may have different last dates for submission. The completed application form duly signed by the Principal of the school should be submitted to the address specified by liaison officer of State/UT. Indian students studying abroad should get their application form on the NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in.

For Stage-II examination, no fee is charged by NCERT. Stage-I exam is conducted by State/UT and exam fee is fixed by them.
NTSE Exam Dates
Dates for Stage 1 and Stage 2 exams are announced:
Date of Stage 1 Examination in Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Andaman and Nicobar Island : 5th November 2016
Date of Stage 1 Examination in Bihar and West Bengal : 13th November 2016
Date of Stage 1 Examination in All other States/UTs : 6th November 2016
NTSE examination date for all states / UTs: 14th May 2017
There will be three papers in this exam.
Paper-I Mental Ability Test (MAT) of 50 marks, 50 questions and 45 minutes duration
Paper-II Language Test (LT) English or Hindi of 50 marks, 50 questions and 45 minutes duration
Paper-III Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) of 100 marks, 100 questions and 90 minutes duration
Qualifying Marks: General Category; 40% in each paper. SC, ST and PH Category: 32% in each paper. Language test is of qualifying nature. Marks obtained will not be considered in final merit.
In SAT there will be Questions in Social Sciences, Sciences and Mathematics. As for as NTSE Syllabus is concerned students can expect questions to be standard of Classes IX and X level.
There will be two stage selection process for award of scholarship. Stage-I, selection will be done by State /UTs and those who qualify Stage-I, will be eligible to appear for Stage-II examination, conducted by NCERT. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of final merit list.
